Post subject: "Auction watch" A 27J 4006-6010?.... |

A fellow Belle fan forwarded me the link to this auction and asked me whether I'd ever seen a 27J 4006-601x. I had not, so I was interested in seeing this one. It looks very very nice (and some Bell-Maniacs might sell a piece of their soul for that vintage bracelet). But one thing caught my eye. Check out the dial info at 6:00 (first photo). For a 4006-601x, it should be either 4006-6010 or -6011 (based upon the technical guides). This says "Japan 6602 - 99005 AD". Hm'mm. And note how this is not a "linen" or "thatched" dial surface, like with this 4006-6010 from 1969 (see bottom pic). That is fairly common with -601x dials (except for the bright blue dial version).
So what could be the answer? A super rare -601x? An extremely good redial? I suppose if someone recognizes the 6602 dial designation they might shed some light on this. One thing is certain, it has attracted quite a few bidders.

but i would say it is a poorly done redial, to the casual glance it looks fine but if you look carefully the text is wrongly positioned, but different that's for sure. _________________ http://thetigeruk.blogspot.com/

very strange !
you people are experts but even the expert can be puzzled sometimes : nice
maybe it is a new dial
the watch sure looks 'new old stock' or even better... _________________ Vanitas vanitatum, et omnia vanitas |

Strange indeed - there is a Seiko 6602 movement, but as far as I know it's a 17j. manual wind, date only model. I thought at first that a donor dial had been used but it would still need the jewel number changing and a day window putting in....
Here's a pic of a 6602, interestingly looks to have similar or same hands as the 6010 Bell:
