Watches that I don't require have become somewhat of an obsession over the last year. Mainly Soviet vintage, but I stumbled upon bellmatics on one of the forums recently and decided I needed one. I liked the look of 6021's and have just offered and BIN'd this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280498178450&ssPage Name=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1154
Maybe I should have been more patient, but I thought it would probably be original/intact, and the price has included shipping over here. Will await it's arrival keenly & hope it works ok!
Definitely the last watch for this year... _________________ Rob |

Congratulations on this acquisition! Here's hoping that it is exactly what you were looking for in a Bell-matic.

Well, my watch arrived a couple of days ago. I think the serial number dates it to Sept 1971. It looks better than the sellers photo collage, with fewer dings and scratches than I expected. Crystal has minor scratches only. The black insert from the date pusher is missing. There is a faint small circular ? oil stain around the point from which the hands exit the dial, but it's really only visible under a strong light if you look closely. The alarm bezel turns smoothly, the date changes over correctly and the date pusher works. The alarm works as set, but is quieter than I expected. It came with an old Seiko quartz bracelet which didn't sit well on the lugs, so I've fitted a non Seiko replacement - I'll keep my eye out for a proper Seiko vintage one. The watch is running pretty well so far, 30 seconds slow per day. The ticking sound is 'softer' than my other mechanicals - is this correct? Overall I'm pretty pleased, and it has just the retro look I wanted. Question now is whether I should get it overhalled by a watchsmith - since it's working pretty well I'm in two minds, but I've no idea what it looks like inside and I don't know the service history atall - what do you think? Thanks to John N for his advice about buying a bell-matic!
