It seems to me that a Franken Bellmatic found its way into the holiest of holies : the archives section of the Bellmatics site ! Very Happy

http://www.bellmatics.com/archives/Archives%20Brochures%20Ads/slides/4 006-6000_27J_J_Ad.htm

Can it be an original second hand ?

It may look attractive, but have you ever seen a colourful second hand like that for a Bellmatic ?

Don't let's be misled by the fact that it is pictured in a book. It obviously is a repaired watch:
The bracelet doesn't look original (it doesn't fit well).
The watch case shows some scratches (lower side).
The dial has a tiny scratch above the center.

All this confirms for me that it is a repaired watch,
and somebody found a particularly nice new second hand for it !

thus improving Wink the original Seiko design.

And they even managed to mislead our Guru JohnN! Embarassed

I've seen strange things in 'vintage watch books' before.

What the heck do these compilers of books care about it... if it looks nice, it should be genuine ?

Neither should the Japanese characters inspire special awe or confidence.

Once visited a Japanese website called 'mr x's watch museum'.
Considering a few butchered watches on display, it was not a real museum in the normal sense of that word, but rather a horror museum. Confused

If you visit the Fakes, Frankens and Redials section of Bellmatics.com, you will see numerous red second hand examples. The photo of the gray dial 4006-6000 was sent in as an example of a "UFO" model with 27J on the dial. Naturally, I agree with you that the red second hand puts this in the "Franken" category and, hopefully, no one seeing it in the "Brochures" section will presume it is legitimate. In fact, since I am doing a major revision of the website, it might be wise to move it from there into the "Fakes..." section. Thanks!

Looks very smooth, site works very well, great work John.

One lesser point : pictures look smaller now;
I can't read some of the fine print; e.g. in the table for cases and dials.
It may be due to my old operating system ?

What about this one on the site : 4006_6001_1_RBailey.
The dial looks very pristine compared with the case.
With that alarm ring, it probably originally had a blue dial ?

Yes, the "RBailey" -6001 at www.bellmatics.com looks to have had a dial transplant, but I am not 100% certain of that.

As for size, I need to do some clean up work and I will experiment with larger full size photos. You can also use ctrl +/- to increase/decrease font size in the interim.
